Announcement by Iranian Studies Group at MIT

Iranian Studies Group at MIT invites all Iranian skilled individuals living abroad, to take part in its second research survey, focusing on the so-called "brain drain" phenomenon.

According to unofficial reports, Iran has the highest rate of "brain drain" among developing countries. The mass migration of skilled individuals could form diverse expatriate communities and could have long-term effects on the socio-economic development of the country of origin and therefore studying trends of this migration is of significant importance both to Iran and host countries. In particular, this project aims to focus on the Iranian skilled individuals and evaluation of their migration intentions as well as conditions to prolong their residency outside of Iran.

In 2004, ISG published a report based on a compilation of US census data on the socio-economic status of Iranian-Americans which was cited by various organizations such as BBC, Washington Post, Shargh Newspaper, U.S. State Department. Following that study, we conducted an opinion survey to learn more about the characteristics of Iranians in the U.S. The results have been reported in multiple publications available at ISG's website: http://isg-mit.org/.

Now, the group invites all Iranians living outside of Iran to contribute to their global community by taking part in this new survey. It studies what factors affect return or non-return of Iranian skilled individuals who have migrated from Iran .

Please fill out this survey if you are:

a) a student of Iranian descent studying abroad at the undergraduate and graduate levels and you have completed at least your high school degree in Iran

or

b) an Iranian descendant holding an academic degree, employed in a country outside Iran and have completed at least your high school degree in Iran.

Please follow the link below and fill out the survey. It is anonymous, takes less than 15 minutes, and is a valuable source of information for improving the understanding of Iranian community made possible by your precious time.
