Vice Presidential Debate

Washington Prism

St Louis, MO – As Democrat Joe Biden battled Republican Sarah Palin Thursday night at Washington University in the only Vice-Presidential debate, many St Louis residents watched the face-off from the comfort of their living rooms, at a variety of private parties, and at a public viewing organized by small liberal arts college Webster University in the nearby town of Webster Groves.

MomsAgainstPalinsmall

A crowd of about one hundred students, alumni, and staff congregated at Webster student center.

Former Missouri Governor Bob Holden, a Democrat who is now the director of the college’s public affairs forum, organized a free “watch party”  open to the public, with a giant flat screen TV, pizza and soda.

In the hours leading to the debate, most people expressed little faith in Governor Palin’s ability to engage in a serious discussion and expected a dreadful performance. At the same time, many were worried that Senator Biden would come across condescending and professorial.

Arthur Banks, a fifty-three year-old former restaurant worker now on disability, stated: “I know Palin will make a lot of mistakes tonight.” Mr. Banks, who will vote for Barack Obama because he is afraid that John McCain will cut entitlements, had watched Gov. Palin’s interview with CBS Katie Couric and was prepared for the worst.

A group of “neighborhood moms against Sarah Palin,” shared similar pessimistic views: “I think Palin will stay away from answering the questions, will relentlessly attack Biden, and will try to divert people’s attention from her lack of knowledge,” commented Sue Hyde. These women were also concerned that Sen. Biden could stumble, if he ever looked like he was patronizing Sarah Palin: “I’m really glad that the moderator is a woman – Gwen Ifill of PBS – because it will give Palin less ground to complain about being treated unfairly,” Jacquelin Bauder maintained.

After the debate was over however, most people agreed that none of what they had feared came true. Sarah Palin looked more confident than in her interviews with Katie Couric and Charlie Gibson, and Joe Biden focused exclusively on attacking John McCain’s policies, never engaging the Governor of Alaska directly or taking on her personal positions.

At Webster University, the audience watched the debate intently and participated with laughter, applauses and booing. Almost exclusively Democrats, they often followed the hints from Joe Biden’s facial expressions in deciding when and how loud to laugh at comments made by Sarah Palin.

According to the majority, the debate turned out better than anticipated, both candidates performed above expectations and the discussion was more interesting and substantive than the first Presidential debate between Senators McCain and Obama.

While still disliking Governor Palin, many in the audience thought that she did a good job. “I think both Biden and Palin were able to put a few key points in,” said Colette Cummings, an employee at Webster, “Biden spoke well on the economy and Palin stressed energy.” Ms. Cummings is an Obama supporter and disagrees with Gov. Palin’s view on same-sex marriage.

Susan Napoleon was impressed by the smooth flow of the debate: “There really were no hiccups and pregnant pauses and they both appeared confident, well-spoken and knowledgeable.” Ms. Napoleon, who is the coordinator of the Dean’s Office at the School of Communication, will vote for Obama although she says she doesn’t trust him.

Thursday night’s debate helped her learning more about Obama’s running mate Joe Biden: “I thought he was a hot head and instead he was very confident with his viewpoint and just genuinely himself.” As for Sarah Palin, Ms. Napoleon agreed with the assessment that she performed above expectations: “She was very consistent with the image she was trying to portray as the Governor of Alaska,” Ms. Napoleon commented.

Although in her opinion Gov. Palin did not fully succeed, this was her way of trying to respond to the criticism that she is not qualified for the vice-presidency.

“I’m glad I watched the debated,” stated Kara Beckman, “it confirmed that I’m making the right choice.” A senior at Webster, Ms. Beckman will vote for Obama because he “understands the average American.” Ms. Beckman was pleased with Sen. Biden’s performance because he used facts and numbers to back his statements, whereas Gov. Palin “was just talk.” Ms. Beckman’s fellow student and friend Andrea Hale complained that Sarah Palin “dodged the questions,” and kept repeating the same campaign lines over and over again.

Ismaeel Snipes, also a student at Webster, will vote for Barack Obama because he thinks Obama’s economic plan is better than John McCain’s, because Obama is “truly in touch with 21st Century foreign policy,” and because Sen. McCain supports President Bush’s policies. Nevertheless, Mr. Snipes is a fan of Sarah Palin: “I like her energy and her personal values,” he claimed. In Mr. Snipes’ opinion, Gov. Palin held her own throughout the debate and performed much better than he thought. Mr. Snipes was also extremely pleased with Joe Biden’s act: “He was never condescending, he was respectful, and yet he always held his ground and was Presidential. And he even became emotional,” he says referring to the moment when Joe Biden shed a few sincere tears talking about the car accident that, in 1972, killed his first wife and his thirteen month-old baby girl and gravely injured his two sons.

Almost unanimously people who watched the debate at Webster agreed that their positive assessment of Gov. Palin’s performance was partially due to the fact that expectations had been set very low, particularly by last week’s interview with Katie Couric. Not surprisingly, the only person who thought Gov. Palin had done a worse job was senior Kara Beckman and she had not seen the Governor on CBS.

As a conclusion, most viewers shared a positive evaluation of the whole of the debate, thought that Gov. Palin did a better job than anticipated but, in the end, declared Joe Biden the winner. A poll conducted among CNN viewers appears to confirm these reactions: 84% of viewers felt Gov. Palin outperformed herself, while still feeling that Sen. Biden did a better job overall.  51% to 36% thought he won the debate.

Cameron – Did you post on CJ’s blog under the name Scott Shepler?Mazr – First, Politics being the chess game it is, you never want to make a move bofere your opponent because you can change your strategy and capitalize on your opponents mistakes. Perhaps McCain did that. It is all part of the process.(Personally, I think Obama blundered with Biden. The Biden pick was ‘reactionary’ to McCain’s attacks on Obama’s lack of experience. Instead, Edwards (D-Tex) would have helped secure him a key state while keeping his “Change” theme intact.)Second, the Democrats, with their “historical” candidate, went out and nabbed a “same old, same old” running mate for him. So much for “Change” – it is obvious the Democratic machine is still at work here.Third, Hillary was never, ever, in one billion years going to get that VP slot.Never.Not ever.Fourth, no McCain pick would have ever been considered NOT pandering by the Dems. Pandering to women, the Religious Right, African Americans, geographic region, whatever.Fifth, I think this pick really scares the hell out of the Dems. Look at the veracity of their attacks. I think this pick has energized the McCain campaign. It gives the Republican ticket some flavor. Biden is vanilla pudding, Palin is apple pie a la mode.

“What ecltxay does the VP do all day?” That is what Ms. Palin asked CNBC’s Larry Kudlow in a tv interview in July. That ranks up there with giving nukes to Taiwan, sticking your nose into a rape case while running with a lead for state’s attorney, and saying “you’ve done a heckuva job Brownie” Abraham Lincoln must be rolling in his grave. Someone should be printing up bumper stickers saying “Today’s G.O.P. Nuttier than Squirrel Poop” I guess P.T. Barnum was right about a sucker being born every minute. And the best part is she’s being invesitigated for ethics violations in the firing of here brother in law from the State Police, and her record as mayor was a fiscal disaster. Yeah her pick changes everything. Do a little research people and think for yourselves.

Yeah I'm annoyed that folks asumse that McCain has 3 months to live and so let's just skip over him and anaylze what Palin as President would mean.I hate the debates, they do very little for me. The commenatary afterwards I do like though. You're right in that for many, the election is viewed as between Obama and Palin. It's seen as an opportunity for one of the minority groups in the US to win. One sense I'm getting is that this is the most pronounced and distinct case of Affirmative Action ever. What I mean is, there are way to many folks voting race or gender to the exclusion of the more important aspect of character.

I know how Sarah Palin got elected. She ofguht higher taxes and corrupt politicians. She brought down a corrupt Governor, Attorney General and state party chairman of her own political party! She's an outsider who doesn't accept business as usual. Her record in government proves this. Obama claims to be about change, but he can't cite a single example where he laid aside partisanship and crossed the aisle to work with Republicans. He chooses someone as his running mate who's been in Washington longer than all but two other senators. You can make fun of the Rezko and Sinclair stories all you want. I've studied the Rezko-Obama house deal. It's corrupt influence peddling. The U.S. Attorney has prosecuted similar cases in the Northern Illinois district. Whether he's ever ultimately prosecuted will not change my mind. Obama pocketed at least $300,000 tax free from Rezko to help purchase that home. You will never convince me otherwise. People like you always scoffed at the womanizing allegations against Bill Clinton. The msm refused to cover those stories. Guess what, they all turned out to be true. You can ignore the Joe Biden-Larry Sinclair connection, but it's bone-chilling to people who have seen what these corrupt political types are capable of doing. Donald Young's murder is unexplained and very odd. You have a man saying he was talking to him about a relationship between him and Obama. It is not disputed Obama knew this man well after attending the same church for 20 years. The man is inexplicably shot multiple times in his home two weeks before the Iowa primary and nobody can figure out a motive. Do I ask questions? You bet I do.

Flobi,I love you Josh. You are a fascinating human being. If you are going to get slppoy drunk and discuss theological views, you should really invite me. The world's best theology has been created over a few (cough cough) pints of beer. I wouldn't have a blog like this if I expected to only have positive responses. I learn more from dissenting views anyway. I'm delighted by the theological and political diversity that we have in our office. I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm also very proud of the open environment for discussion that we've created. I've been in organizations that stifled those conversations, so I make a point of encouraging them. I view open discourse (dis-course)as a sign of a healthy organization.

I have decided tgourhh much contemplation (and some yelling from my wife) that posting arguementative remarks on my boss's website in irrelevant places in the wee hours of the morning while sloppy drunk is not one of the better desicions to make, especially with performance reviews looming. Besides being totally hipocrital, it was generally stupid. I will read the topics you posted, and put relevant replies where they should be. In fact, should you want to just wipe this conversation so this post can have comments on it's actual content, I would be ok with that.

Good for you Tut - I cannot tell you how much eopple outside of the USA are holding their breath over this - most of us praying that Obama will win through, as it seems unspeakable that the mad Sarah Palin should get within sniffing distance of the White House - and it seems to us that their camp is simply descending into the worst kind of bigotry, which shows a kind of insular prejudice the world could well do without. My only fear is that the bigots and ignorant come out in droves to vote them in. God save us if they do. Obama would be a much better and calming force in global politics. In the same way that a candidate can talk a big game until they get etceled, Palin is talking a bunch of base-appealing stuff now that they've surrendered ever winning the center. This campaign is looking like Ishtar, with a bunch of talent and money being thrown out there sans script or story. Adam Carolla could have written a better script for this campaign as one of his comedic exercises.

Some insurance pnecaoims pull credit reports, some don't. Some who do only pull it during the purchase process, not the quote process.Typically, credit inquiries by insurance pnecaoims are considered soft inquiries and do not affect credit scores. Therefore, it's not something to be concerned about.

about me:"You claim that it's up to one's interpretation what the Bible means, but why?"That isn't at all like anything I've said here or in conversation with you elsewhere. By wording the statement as you have there, it sounds as if you think I mean there is no way to know anything about the original intent of the author and that EVERY possible interpretation is a productive interpretation. I don't mean anything like that at all.Instead what I mean when I talk to you about biblical interpretation is that every interpretation brings with it some personal baggage. We read scripture through our particular lens. Good exegesis attempts to (though never perfectly) read the texts through the lens of the original author. This is never a perfect science because we don't have access to the original authors. In most cases we don't even have a definitive identity of the author. So we undertake the process of textual criticism to examine the cultural norms, political climate, and geographical influences of the approximate environment of the author and their community. By doing that, our goal is to learn what the author meant rather than reading our own desires into the texts. My goal in all reading of scripture is to understand the author's intention. I'm never intentionally trying to read my views into it. However, that goal is unreachable. We must remain humble enough to realize our flawed attempts. Our humility must cause us to consistently question our interpretation as it is OUR interpretation. Where you suppose I am questioning the texts themselves, what you should realize is that I'm questioning our (and my) previous interpretations. When you over simplify the process by suggesting the texts have ONLY the surface plain meanings, you are belittling the authors by suggesting they were not smart enough to add depth and complexity in the form of metaphor, symbolism, and allegory. You are selling the authors short. I suggest you are valuing a particular (I'd add simplistic) interpretation rather than honoring the full depth of texts. For example, I am 100% positive that I saw you place a fag in your mouth behind the office building last week. Do you want to take that statement at face value within the culture of those reading the statement or do some exegesis and look for possible alternate meanings for the word fag? Do you want to consider the most obvious use of "fag" in our culture to mean "homosexual" or do you want to consider that in some cultures, the word fag is slang for cigarette? To truly understand both my statement and the object of my statement (you), a person would need to do more research about both of us to avoid a misunderstanding about your daily habits behind the office. car insurance car insurance quotes

Lance, yes, Obama has more experience than Palin. Serving an Illinois state senate district then holding a Senate seat counts a hell of lot more than less than two years as a governor of one of the least populous states in the country. By your "experience" metric, would Jesse Ventura would be the most "qualified" candidate compared the four candidates on the two tickets. Do you actually know Palin's actual positions on anything? What is her opinion of our two wars? Where does she stand on how diplomacy should be conducted? If she's a proponent of home schooling, will she be objective when it comes to our public schools? Where does she stand on health care? Why did she support Pat Buchanan's campaign in 1996 and 2000 (according to Buchanan himself). Why did she feel that Creationism should be taught in public schools? Does she favor a complete ban on all abortions? To Gary's point, if she's not a homophobe, than why is she specifically against gay marriage, apart from her belief that God is against it? Where does she stand on Social Security? Is she in favor of torture? Does she agree with the policies at Guantanamo Bay? You all can complain about Obama being a blank slate (even though he's been nationally prominent for nearly four years), but I find it disingenuous that GOP people are apparently unwilling to ask basic questions about a candidate who might be elected vice-president in 10 weeks? Additionally, I find it concerning that McCain apparently only met her in person literally one time before last week. So does he make this many important decisions with such little thought or reflection? Or, is Palin simply a cynical prop? Considering that some on this blog were willing to engage in all manner of wild speculation about Obama (including some pretty vicious rumors), the fact that Gary and the other GOP'ers are unwilling to ask even BASIC questions about this woman is extremely troubling. car insurance qoutes auto insurance

To truly understand both my statement and the object of my statement (you), a person would need to do more research about both of us to avoid a misunderstanding about your daily habits behind the office. online auto insurance quotes online auto insurance

Yeah, I had the same experience, I am so happy today, it is like a dream come true...It's interesting they trot out the "experience" issue already; she has more than Barry himself. Moreover, she has dealt with Canada on energy & lately there has been some provocative behavior by Russia on the bordering waters and skies.Let's see if the msyoginist Mullah Omar Dean, Bin Biden (trouble with his wife having a degree) and Barry (sweetie)go after her with same ferocity they went after HRC...That will backfire, BIG TIME.... auto insurance quotes auto insurance quotes

From The Faculty Lounge:Missing From the Palin Debate . . .An important aoddtiin to the Palin debate unfortunately neglected by the mainstream press: (Posted with permission of Prof. Nareissa Smith)Here are some choice quotes from conservatives regarding their thoughts on the unfortunate situation facing the teen daughter of the Republican Vice Presidential nominee, Sarah Palin: Families have difficulties sometimes and lucky for her she has a supportive family. I have a 17-year-old daughter, and they start making choices without us. I appreciate the choice she is making to have the baby, but it just makes her a real person. It happens every day in America. I think, if anything, it shows the Republican Party is a real American party. Every family has to deal with children, and sometimes children make decisions that parents wish they would not have been made, and things happen. But I think children are a blessing from God. I have no problem with the charitable nature of the responses. In fact, in my opinion, these are wonderful responses. However, I can't help but wonder, would this acceptance be tempered if the young lady were a woman of color? It seems to be that the people who made these benevolent statements are part of the same party that has used unwed motherhood, particularly that of women of color, to argue that the poor deserve less care and less compassion. Were Reagan's so-called welfare queens any less deserving? Can a young woman of color make the same mistakes and receive the same forgiveness? Or will she be doomed to be the poster child for the downfall of the empire and the liberty for which it stands?I wish Ms. Palin and her family well. But after this election is over, I hope that those that are so supportive of her family at this time remember that other families in America are indeed going through the same thing. Those families e2€“ regardless of color or economic status- need the same level of compassion. Here's hoping that this can be a teachable moment, as we say in the academy.

Cause anything goes for McCaint He is scaerd he Caint win. He saw the Democratic campaign and went into a state of panic! He will use ANYTHING or ANYBODY to win.He felt 18,000,000 votes were his for the taking. All he needed was a bait.So he called Palin, because he thinks Hillary's supporters are so shallow and stupid that they would go to the McCain camp, led like dummies without careful consideration. It is highly insulting to All women. If he would panic just because of the democratic campaign, imagine how he would panic if he got the 3 am call and push the wrong button.

The commenatary afterwards I do like though. You’re right in that for many, the election is viewed as between Obama and Palin. A few quick points: If you count overall combined life experience, John Edwards was as qualified – if not more qualified – than Barack Obama in 2008. Edwards had trial lawyer experience – longer than Obama’s, owning your own business experience – longer than Obama’s, Wall Street experience – Obama has none, Senate experience – the same as Obama’s, grassroots organizing experience – longer than Obama’s, and lastly, the growing up with virtually nothing experience – as long as Obama’s. The fact that you have never liked the man, Dan, is not lost on your readers and is no reason to shirk his real life experience which is a lot more than Obama’s. While Obama may have made grand speeches to out of work steel workers after Harvard Law, I challenge anyone to compare this to anything Edwards did for people who were down and out with nothing, as noted in his book, “Four Trials.” Second, the Palin pick is pretty interesting overall. I’m not going to speculate whether this was the best or worst move right now. That remains to be seen. Gut reaction says it has both positives and negatives. After hearing the announcement yesterday, I blogged it as “McCain and the MILF,” which is how I initially perceived the pick. I think I was the first to coin this term but whatever.Thinking about it in the deeper context though, there is a lot more to her than “Quayle in a pantsuit.”When she was first floated months ago, there were a bunch of stories about her background as a city councilor, mayor, and now governor. She seems to have short stints of things she has done, and then moved on – or up – to other things. There wasn’t much written about her journalism background at the time but now they are talking about that too. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of “breaking stories” to her background. She has a journalism degree, she was a sports reporter, etc. But I wonder if her journalism training is where she got her tenacity to fight corruption within her own party. That fits in with McCain’s background of going after – pounding into the ground, if you will – small points within the budget, within his party, etc. That all said, McCain really needed to do something dynamic with his pick. We all kinda realized that. Choosing just another white guy – Romney, Huckabee, Pawlenty, Ridge, etc. – was not going to do it. Choosing this woman, at this time, was a pretty dynamic choice. While the Democrats and the media are kinda pooh-poohing the gender thing, they need to be careful about this. I’m willing to bet that Palin puts a good chunk of Hillary 18 million voters – especially the middle-aged, white, WalMart women, the backbone of her base – in play. Despite what some may think, these women are not Kool-Aid Democrats or social liberals. They don’t support gay marriage and they’re iffy on abortion. Many of the women who voted for Hillary in places like Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, etc., all places McCain needs to be competitive, fit this description. Palin is not going to be able to draw Hillary women who are the latte voters, small S socialists, and education fanatics. They will all swallow the gender issue with the Obama/Biden ticket and hope for the best. But the others? They’re in play. car insurance cialis

Good for you Tut - I cannot tell you how much people outside of the USA are holding their breath over this - most of us praying that Obama will win through, as it seems unspeakable that the mad Sarah Palin should get within sniffing distance of the White House - and it seems to us that their camp is simply descending into the worst kind of bigotry, which shows a kind of insular prejudice the world could well do without. My only fear is that the bigots and ignorant come out in droves to vote them in. God save us if they do. Obama would be a much better and calming force in global politics. Obama did what he had to do. That’s the same thing I said immediately after Bill Clinton’s speech in 1992. It was excellent. Stagecraft was great, speech was pretty good, I’d give it 85-90 on a scale of 100, Bill Clinton’s was probably 75-80. But of course, I want fuckin’ blood. However, Clinton was up an easy 20 points, and they weren’t Dukakis points, they were Brit/Irish punter points, although that was in the middle/end of July.Sarah Palin?AHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!Thank fuckin’ god.Loved how she invoked September 11 into her speech twice, not September 11, 2001, but Septemner 11, 2008, the day her son supposedly deploys, let’s see if anybody fact checks that.I heard her speech on the radio while I was driving and judging by that, I would say it’s a good thing there’s T.V. and I hope she lets her hair down.I tune into “Three-Way Severin” every once in a while to gauge the nut factor, and he had no idea what to do with it, which is fabulous.McCain’s strategy is to use her for the hard right, particularly the jesus freaks. A few things… governing alaska would be absolutely nothing like governing the most powerful (well maybe not so much any more) nation in the world. I will concede that maybe governing Alaska is more involved then say… Wyoming… With the Wildlife Reserve controversies and the oil debates raging on. But other than that, Alaska doesn’t do much in comparison to the vast expanse of duties a stand-in president would have to cope with. Not to mention the crisis our nation would be in just having lost their president. In my eyes, Biden would be a lot better, because if, heaven forbid, John McCain did die in office, change isn’t high on the list of things to do. If Obama died somehow, again, heaven forbid, Biden would be able to work with Congress perhaps a bit better, and having experience dealing in Washington things would get done. car insurance cialis

I think you mean “credit score.” Credit history is borrowing and paying back. I recently applied for a home equity line of credit. Two reasons listed for my score being less than perfect were “length of accounts” and “too many inquiries in the past 12 months.” I have no idea as to who was inquiring, when or why. Flobi,I love you Josh. You are a fascinating human being. If you are going to get sloppy drunk and discuss theological views, you should really invite me. I view open discourse (dis-course)as a sign of a healthy organization. levitra addicting online games acyclovir discount

Considering that some on this blog were willing to engage in all manner of wild speculation about Obama (including some pretty vicious rumors), the fact that Gary and the other GOP'ers are unwilling to ask even BASIC questions about this woman is extremely troubling. levitra viagra

They’re in play. levitra addicting online games acyclovir

I know how Sarah Palin got elected. She fought higher taxes and corrupt politicians. You bet I do. viagra cheap acyclovir 800 mg

I have decided through much contemplation (and some yelling from my wife) that posting arguementative remarks on my boss's website in irrelevant places in the wee hours of the morning while sloppy drunk is not one of the better desicions to make, especially with performance reviews looming. Besides being totally hipocrital, it was generally stupid. I will read the topics you posted, and put relevant replies where they should be. In fact, should you want to just wipe this conversation so this post can have comments on it's actual content, I would be ok with that. levitra viagra prices

Obama would be a much better and calming force in global politics. that he would order the US military invasion of Pakistan to find Osama Bin Laden?McCain donned his country's uniform proudly and suffered for it. Palin's son volunteered for the US Army is being deployed to Iraq on 9/11.The One and Biden both actively supported efforts to deny our troops the means and materiel that they needed to stand in harm's way, let alone pursue victory. Shameful.Palin is the Commander of the Alaskan National Guard. The One commanded the staff of the Hahvahd llllaaaaaaaaw review.Palin governed for eight years (from the age of 32) a municipality of 9500 residents. The One was a community oooooorganizer (whatever the H that is) during which he accomplished... well..... nothing.Palin stood up to corrupt leaders and politician of her own party at great risk to her political future, and for the good of her state. The One cowardly did nothing, sitting mute for 20 years while the leader of his church spewed hate filled racist America hating garbage from the pulpit. All to protect his political hide.Palin actively supports the exploration and exploitaion of oil and natural gas reserves in the North Slope basin in an effort to secure America's energy future. The One and Biden actively oppose this, and instead seek to impose higher taxes on oil and significanly higher energy costs on working Americans.Palin chose to welcome an innocent special needs child to the world. The One would have allowed it to die, and wouldn't think of "punishing" his daughter with a baby. And Obama is supposed to be the qualified one??? They’re in play. auto insurance quote cheap auto insurance

about me:"You claim that it's up to one's interpretation what the Bible means, but why?"That isn't at all like anything I've said here or in conversation with you elsewhere. To truly understand both my statement and the object of my statement (you), a person would need to do more research about both of us to avoid a misunderstanding about your daily habits behind the office. auto insurance quotes auto insurance quote

If Obama died somehow, again, heaven forbid, Biden would be able to work with Congress perhaps a bit better, and having experience dealing in Washington things would get done. auto insurance quotes auto insurance quote

Hi, If you call them directly all they should need to know is what state you are in. A lot about your rate is dependent on the individual state policies and regulations. That is what they need to give you a quote as far as I know and I assume the rest of the info is indeed so they can send you junk mail etc (could be wrong though). Check out the company I listed below. They have by far the best rates I have ever heard of and If you call can give you a quote in about 5 minutes. Good luck, cialis order discounted propecia online

I know how Sarah Palin got elected. She foguht higher taxes and corrupt politicians. You bet I do.

this experience doesn't trltnaase to being able to run the federal government. Doesn't anybody remember how much grief Bill Clinton took for being "just a small state governor?" Arkansas has five times the population of Alaska, folks!Seriously, there is a reason that I can't find a single president or vice-president who was the mayor of a major city (which is basically what Alaska is). Do I think this was politically smart? I'd call it political genius in the following respects: (1) she might swing independent women voters without strong pro-choice views and, thereby, close the gender gap that generally benefits the Democratic Party; (2) she can shore up McCain with the NRA, as she is a lifetime member; (3) she'll help McCain re-establish his "maverick" label because he selected someone who isn't pedigreed Republican establishment; (4) she'll serve as McCain's built-in expert on Alaskan oil, so when she talks about how opening up ANWR will not hurt any critters but could reduce gas prices, she'll have an air of credibility that you don't get from a lower 48 state politician. Oh, and did I mention that she looks good on TV? But political genius isn't the same as good for the country. Seriously, AI, you think Governor Palin fits McCain's stated single most important criteria of "ready to serve as President?" Sorry, but I don't see it. If Obama dies of lung cancer, I won't lose a minute of sleep. If McCain dies of skin cancer, I'll be terrified for the country. When you said she was a great pick, you meant politically only, I'm assuming.www.ipopa.blogspot.com

She is not a homophobe and her recrod makes that clear. Queerty.com does a good job summing up her position:"While she opposes gay marriage - as all the national contenders do - Palin's frequently come out in support of her gay friends and insists she's open to discussions on discrimination legislation. Palin told an Alaska newspaper that she's "not out to judge" gay people. She went on to say that she believes "that honoring the family structure is that important," and would thus oppose a gay marriage measure. She previously supported a 1998 bill to ban gay marriage. Despite her opposition to same-sex nuptials, Palin helped move Alaska toward a more inclusive frontier in 2006 when she blocked a bill that would have prohibited gay benefits in the state." I know it must really hurt you, but the only candidate on either presidential ticket who has actually made an executive decision to extend same-sex benefits is Gov. Palin.

I am not a Republican but, differences in pliocy preferences aside, I like this pick for McCain. Don't underestimate the attraction a lot of women might have to being able to vote for someone like them. I don't expect a bunch of Hillary supporters to suddenly get religion (pun intended) and become Republicans even for a day, but a few might.Shofar ... I appreciated some of your comments the most in this thread. I always wonder what people 2000 years from now will think about the knowledge of this era and what we taught our children. Think about how far ahead we are than people 2000 years ago, how fast technology accelerates and what people 2000 years from now might think? It always occurs to me that man, presently, has the power to create life ... perhaps not "from scratch" but certainly by remixing what is already existing. Where will we be 50 or 100 years from now? I hope to live long enough to find out.

Flobi,I love you Josh. You are a fascinating human being. If you are going to get soplpy drunk and discuss theological views, you should really invite me.

I can't wait until Nov. 5th. The TV airways will be flield with commercials about what your kids must have for Christmas, telling you that "she wants diamonds", and that every store in town has "the lowest prices"The mute button will be used a lot in the next 9 weeks, the video stores will have record rentals, and people will be arguing over which candidate is going to do the best job compared to which one is telling all lies.Seems a little foolish to spend 30-40 million to get a job that pays only $400,000.00.Wilson-Art, when did you stop doing research before open you typeing? You're usually pretty good at getting your facts. (at least your version of the facts)

Good for you Tut - I cannot tell you how much pelpoe outside of the USA are holding their breath over this - most of us praying that Obama will win through, as it seems unspeakable that the mad Sarah Palin should get within sniffing distance of the White House - and it seems to us that their camp is simply descending into the worst kind of bigotry, which shows a kind of insular prejudice the world could well do without. My only fear is that the bigots and ignorant come out in droves to vote them in. God save us if they do. Obama would be a much better and calming force in global politics. (I'm not normally this outspoken BTW!)

Cause anything goes for McCaint He is scread he Caint win.
